The Residence Hall Director (RD) is responsible for the residential life functions in one or more residence halls.
Primary responsibilities of an RD include the facilitation of a positive, inclusive, and safe community in the residence halls that encourages a student to develop their full potential. Additionally, the RD promotes students' engagement with the community, lifelong learning skills, and personal development in support of the University's Franciscan focused mission.
This position includes supervision of a team of 8 - 12 resident assistants, on-call duty rotation, supervision of hall/area programming, administrative housing responsibilities, hearing of conduct cases, and assessment of established Residence Life learning outcomes. The RD is supervised by the Director of Residence Life and is a 11 month, live in position. Although the majority of duties are listed below, some aspects are subject to change to meet evolving division needs.
Responsible for comprehensive supervision of student staff in assigned areas, including selection, training, development, weekly 1 on 1 meetings, and evaluation.
Conduct low/medium level judicial proceedings or meetings regarding behavior and related administrative tasks as assigned by the Associate Dean for Student Life.
Manage all operational aspects of a residence hall/area including but not limited to meeting with residents, opening and closing of the residence halls, program budget, damage billing, submitting and following up on facilities requests, roommate agreements/mediations, overseeing building/community programming and events.
Support Residence Life in one or more collateral assignments that support the function of the department. Examples include housing assignments, staff selection, staff training, Residence Hall Association (RHA) advisor.
Serve as a member of the Level II on call duty rotation by responding to critical incidents as they arise and enforcing university policy and procedure and other duties related to emergency and non-emergency management.
Supplemental Functions:
* Lead and assist RAs and residents in establishing residence hall culture that promotes a sense of both community and individual responsibility, quiet, privacy, and security with academics as the highest priority.
* Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
* Collaborate with and support positions and offices that are integral to student support, including University Ministries (especially ministers in residence), Student Success Center, Student Activities, Career and Professional Readiness Center.
* Participate in training held by Residence Life, Student Affairs, or the University.
* Develop and maintain an individual personal/professional development plan, including DEI, development in consultation with Director.
* Serves as needed on departmental or campus committees as a representative of Residence Life.
A Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree preferred.
2+ Years of Resident Assistant and/or 1+ Year of Residence Hall Director or related student leadership experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Prior knowledge of The Housing Director (Adirondack Solutions) or Maxient Conduct Software preferred.
* Must possess excellent administrative, communication and organizational skills.
* Have advanced knowledge of all applications of the Microsoft Office Package, including Word, Excel, and Outlook and presentation software.
* Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the University.
* Engage in educational opportunities to increase personal awareness and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion and develop opportunities for students.
Candidates with 1 or more years prior experience in the following are encouraged to apply:
