Position Description

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Facilities, the Facilities Project Manager – Design & Construction provides leadership on strategic and operational matters and is responsible for the coordination, implementation, execution, reporting, and completion of Facilities projects, overseeing the operational and budgetary activities of Physical Plant and Grounds, Custodial Operations, Campus Planning and Improvements, and Environmental Health and Safety. The Project Manager provides project design oversight and construction management services that advance the mission of the institution and foster collaboration across all University divisions and departments, offering critical facilities insight, support and leadership to address the short- and long-term priorities of the institution's facilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage planning, budgeting, design, consultant and contractor selection, pre-construction bidding, construction management,quality assurance, and project turnover to operations and maintenance for multiple capital construction projects.
  • Develop processes and procedures for facilities-related project sand serve as the institution's subject matter expert on project design and construction management.
  • Monitor and evaluate activities on assigned projects by tracking progress, managing project documentation, and preparing status and project close-out reports.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to facilities staff —including technicians, maintenance workers, and custodial teams —managing a workforce of approximately 30–40 staff and outside contractors for routine services and major repairs.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment that promotesteamwork and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Facilities to develop project scope, support project development and planning, and establish maintenance and operations plans upon completion.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the internal and external community on facilities management, capital planning, and construction; monitor workflow, work products, results, methods,and procedures.
  • Draft Requests for Proposals in consultation with the procurement office, and supervise and coordinate the design, permitting, and construction activities of contractors.
  • Foster collaboration and communication with campus departments —including academic units, administrative offices, and student organizations — and participate in campus committees and meetings addressing facilities-related issues and initiatives.
  • Provide consistent, timely, and reliable communication among all project stakeholders.
  • Stay current with emerging developments in the field through relevant publications and participation in professional organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management,Facilities Management, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for some education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project scheduling and coordination,with the ability to develop, implement, and maintain detailed project schedules.
  • Ability to develop and lead project teams, accomplish project milestones within set time frames, and manage the work of consultants and contractors.
  • Excellent planning, assessment, and communication skills, withthe ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders within a collegial, participatory culture.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability tohandle sensitive and confidential information while managing complex issues involving multiple constituencies.
  • Ability to work independently, set goals, and determine how to accomplish results with broad guidance and overall direction.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred:
  • OSHA 30 certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Successful experience leading change in a higher education or similarly complex institutional environment.
Supplemental Information Work Environment:

This position operates in both office and campus/field settings,with extensive standing and walking, occasional lifting of items upto 25 lbs., and periodic exposure to all weather conditions.
