The position is located in the Office of the Director for Special Activities (DSA), in the Department of Operational Support (DOS). The position reports to the Director of the Division. DOS was established with a mandate to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services, and other solutions to operational entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions.

DSA oversees a range of specialized and crosscutting operational capacities, with a focus on direct support for operating entities faced with special circumstances and other operational planning priorities The role will work across the Division to provide cross-cutting coordination and support that integrates its operational planning, partnerships, capacity building, and improving service delivery pillars into comprehensive solutions for the complex issues and opportunities that are faced by its clients within the Secretariat, partners across the UN system, and with Regional Organizations.

The position will also oversee the Divisions specialized client support and special situations capacity with a focus on expanding the use of the standing surge capacity as an operational solution. It will also oversee the coordination of key events, including the Secretary-General’s Annual Memorial Service.
