The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA) is an international medical humanitarian organization founded in 2009 and headquartered in Dakar, Senegal, with offices in Paris, New York, and London. ALIMA's mission is to provide high-quality medical care to the world’s most vulnerable populations while advancing humanitarian medicine through research, innovation, and partnership with local organizations.
ALIMA currently operates in 14 countries across West, Central, and East Africa and Haiti, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Sudan. ALIMA’s areas of expertise span acute malnutrition, maternal and child health, epidemics and emerging diseases, mental health, surgery, and research and innovation.
ALIMA USA, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and serves as an autonomous US section of ALIMA. Established in 2014, ALIMA USA raises funds, builds awareness, represents, and cultivates partnerships in the United States to support ALIMA’s global humanitarian mission.
THE OPPORTUNITY:ALIMA USA is entering a pivotal stage of growth. Building on the organization's expanding global impact and increasing momentum across the United States, the next Executive Director will have the opportunity to lead ALIMA USA through its next chapter of strategic growth—expanding fundraising, strengthening national partnerships, elevating visibility, and building the organization's long-term presence in the U.S. philanthropic market.
The Executive Director (ED) of ALIMA USA reports to the ALIMA USA Board of Directors through the Board Chair and holds overall strategic and operational responsibility for ALIMA USA’s activities in the United States. The ED works closely with ALIMA’s Director General and the Executive Team, and other senior members of the Dakar- and Paris-based teams. The ED serves as an ex officio non-voting member of the ALIMA USA Board.
The ED will serve as the strategic leader of ALIMA USA, responsible for expanding the organization's fundraising capacity, strengthening its national profile, deepening strategic partnerships, and positioning the U.S. affiliate as an increasingly influential contributor to ALIMA’s global mission.
ROLES + RESPONSIBILITIES:- Collaborate with the ALIMA USA team to create and execute a fundraising plan focused on increasing the donor base via digital platforms, cultivations, and securing unrestricted operating support from the general public, major donors, and corporate and private foundations.
- Cultivate and steward existing general public, major donors, family foundations, corporate donors and prospects; research and actively pursue leads.
- Organize donor meetings, cultivation events, and annual fundraising events. Ensure sound donor data management and reporting.
- Collaborate with ALIMA’s digital team and external consultants to develop and implement a digital engagement and fundraising strategy.
- Identify and pursue restricted private and public grant opportunities in the US in support of ALIMA’s operations; work closely with ALIMA’s grants management and operations teams to prepare proposals and oversee grant compliance.
- Engage the ALIMA USA Board, Board+ (ALIMA USA's network of emerging leaders, young professionals, and next-generation champions who support fundraising and ambassador efforts), and ALIMA staff to advance U.S. fundraising activities.
- Manage the Development team, including the Senior Development Officer, Senior Major Gifts Officer, Development Officer for Digital Marketing and Social Media, and Development Associate, along with any additional staff or consultants engaged to support development activities.
- Develop and implement a communications strategy in partnership with external vendors and the communications team in Dakar to raise ALIMA’s profile in US media and among key audiences, in support of the organization’s fundraising and programmatic objectives.
