Role Overview
:
Reporting directly to the Director of Planning and Urban Design, the Senior Project Manager of Planning and Urban Design will oversee project management and consultant deliverables, as required, to advance the Comprehensive Planning and Development Project (Project) and other planning and design projects as may be identified by LCPA.

Primary responsibilities will include supporting the project team on general project oversight and functionality, including devising the strategic planning approach, coordination, and implementation. The Senior Project Manager will support hiring planning, design, real estate, and community engagement consultants for the Project, and manage the consultants &their work products once they are onboarded.

This is a full-time salaried position with benefits that is fully funded for one year. The target start date is September 22, 2026 and there is potential for the role to continue past the initial year.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The scope of the duties of the Senior Project Manager, Planning and Design will include:
  • Support RFP/Q/I processes, and other requests for planning, design, and community engagement consultant firms, and outside land use counsel
  • Oversee, with the Director of Planning and Urban Design, outside consultants to provide services for the Project, including but not limited to planning, design, and community engagement management
  • Manage outside consultants to adhere to LCPA project goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with LCPA stakeholders to draft overall strategic planning approach, including anticipated workplans, scope of work, project team, project budget
  • Manage real estate firm and planning/design consultant deliverables, including tracking and coordination of owner review and comments
  • Meet with consultants as necessary to review deliverables
  • Support the Government and Community Relations team with city processes, coordinated with the Project schedule
  • Coordinate with LCPA and other resident arts organizations (RAOs) as may be necessary to advance project elements
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations for involved RAOs, including staff committees, RAOs’ executives, and board representatives of LCPA

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years of experience with project management and administration for planning, design, or development projects
  • A deep understanding of New York City real estate and affordable housing in the context of neighborhood planning and development rights.
  • Facility in dealing with city and state public approvals, including deep knowledge of NYC zoning, land use, and environmental review processes.
  • Large-scale urban development project management experience, especially institutional or cultural campus-scale planning experience.
  • Expertise managing multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • Experience in contract negotiation and scope management.
  • Proficiency in budget, schedule, and risk management, including scope development within a pre-approved project budget.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and community outreach.
  • Executive presentation and board communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with project management and deliverable tracking tools.
