The William T. Grant Foundation, President
The William T. Grant Foundation seeks an exceptional professional to lead the Foundation and to further its mission of supporting research to improve the lives of young people in the United States.
The Foundation works to improve the lives of youth ages 5–25 in the United States. Its current research priorities are:
- Reducing inequality in youth outcomes
- Improving the use of research evidence in policies and practices that affect youth
- Research-practice partnerships between university-based research and public agencies or nonprofit organizations to reduce inequality in youth outcomes
- The William T. Grant Scholars program, which provides five-year research and mentoring support grants for early career scholar
At the end of 2025, the Foundation’s endowment was $440 million. In recent years, the Foundation’s annual operating budget has been approximately $23 million, which is 5.75 percent of a rolling 36-month average of assets. The Foundation currently has nineteen full-time employees at its offices in midtown Manhattan.
The President leads the strategic direction of the Foundation and shapes its agenda. The position requires a strong facility with research, its relationships to policy and practice, and an understanding of the current landscape of research relevant to the lives of young people in the U.S. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, thoughtful, strategic person who can partner with the Board, manage a highly skilled staff, ensure the organization’s fiscal and administrative stability, and build strong relationships internally and externally.
While the Foundation and its Board are committed to its current mission of supporting research to improve the lives of young people, they welcome the fresh perspective and expertise a new President will bring to the organization. All assume that—as contexts, policies, and leadership change—the work of the Foundation will continue to evolve, as it has throughout the organization’s history.
The salary range is $600,000-$775,000 and is commensurate with experience. The Foundation also offers a highly competitive benefits package, which includes health, dental, and vision insurance; flexible spending account; 403(b) employer contributions, yearly paid holidays; and an annualized vacation, personal, and sick days.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. The William T. Grant Foundation is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
