Position: East Valley Program Coordinator / EVR Summer Camp Director
Location: New York

Description

The East Valley Program Coordinator and East Valley Ranch Summer Camp Director is responsible for the direct implementation and oversight of Frost Valley YMCA's East Valley Programs. This includes an all girls specialty equestrian summer camp which engages ~60 campers per session, as well as year round initiatives that include school trips, and group and family retreats throughout the non-summer months.

The program runs from our East Valley Ranch and 515 acre farm camp facility. In addition, this position supports our larger program portfolio and works to support year round and community programs outside the East Valley when needed. A principal job function is to ensure thatquality service is provided to all participants, families and staff. The East Valley Coordinator will assist with recruiting, program development, staff training, program operations, an devaluation.

This position requires living on site at camp year round, with room and board provided. The role may occasionally include rotating and paid overnight 'on-call' responsibilities when camp is in session, and when groups are on-site.

Requirements
  • Responsible for all aspects of day-to-day camp operations and year round programs in the East Valley
  • Maintain the highest safety standards for ~60 campers per session in East Valley Ranch summer camp, and for all groups throughout the year
  • Participate in and execute recruitment strategy to meet enrollment goals
  • Work with Program teams to manage a calendar of recruitment efforts including camp fairs, open houses, info sessions, school and community events
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with parents, caregivers, and guests
  • Review and respond to camper, family and guest feedback; providing prompt, friendly and informative service to stakeholders
  • Collaborate across departments, including wellness, kitchen, facilities, agriculture and equestrian, to ensure strong program operations and team work
  • With guidance from the Associate Director of Specialty Camping, manage the East Valley Ranch program budget and maintain supply inventory
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations and American Camping Association accreditation standards
  • Support year round and community programs initiatives, including subbing at our after school program when needed
  • Assist with barn chores including feeding and daily maintenance when needed, including snow removal during winter months
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned by the Associate Director of Specialty Camping and Executive Leadership
Program Design
  • Develop program schedules and workshops for school groups and weekend retreats throughout the year
    • Retreat groups include scout troops, adventure guides, family groups, fly-fishing and hunting retreats, and specialty equestrian groups
  • Collaborate with Program Quality team to implement program safety standards, trainings, surveys and ensure a quality program experience aligned with organizational vision
  • Create and support a joyful program experience and environment, ensuring programs are executed in ways that are fun, while also encouraging challenge and growth
Staff Hiring and Management
  • Recruit and hire a team of ~14 seasonal staff domestic and international staff, general counselors, and junior counselors (staff aged under 18)
  • Supervise a seasonal team, providing ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Responsible for administrative duties including scheduling, payroll, documentation of staff coaching and evaluation
  • Work with Camping Services team to develop and implement staff training for resident camp staff

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or a minimum of 3 years progressively responsible supervisory experience in a resident camp or recreation setting
