Energy/Power Generation
• Oversee daily operations and long-term planning for energy demand, decarbonization, and strategic energy conservation initiatives across the institution
• Lead and motivate a team focused on energy management, carbon reduction, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance across the main campus and outlying WCM real estate portfolio
• Identify and formalize institutional campus energy reduction and sustainability goals
• Communicate goals to the WCM community, senior leadership, and department sustainability stakeholders
• Formalize goals within action plans identifying focus areas supporting compliance pathways
• Drive projects supporting energy and sustainability goals and help department stakeholders remain on course
• Report on goals and progress semi-annually
• Chair an energy and sustainability council reviewing team and stakeholder progress
• Set target goals for campus energy reduction
• Oversee development of measurement metrics and utility meter dashboards for real-time tracking and reporting of campus energy usage
• Provide subject expertise on energy, carbon reduction, and sustainability measures
• Provide input on institutional and departmental standards, capital project design, consultant selection, regulatory response, employee requests, and community requests
• Explore grant funding and rebate programs to offset energy and sustainability initiative costs
• Establish detailed project budgets incorporating funding sources and associated ROIs
• Oversee programs including speaker series, WCM community training, and technical operations team improvements
• Monitor energy management and sustainability regulations
• Evaluate and roll out technologies supporting WCM objectives
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- Degree in engineering, environmental science, or another related field
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with energy and sustainability projects
- Field related licenses and certifications a plus
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex interrelationships between multiple utility systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Excellent communication, planning, organizing and problem solving skills
- Experience with effectively managing and developing budgets
- Solid organizational skills and detail oriented
- Ability to work in non-office environments including animal research areas, machine rooms, crawl spaces, and areas with noise, dust, heat, fumes, odors, leaks, dark areas, dampness, and restricted access
- Periodic work on weekdays and some weekends
Demonstrates expertise in energy management, carbon reduction, and sustainability initiatives, with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and strategic planning. Proven ability to lead teams, develop budgets, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
