Director for Economic Justice and Pro Bono Initiatives

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Feerick Center for Social Justice, the Director leads the Feerick Center’s economic justice work, including managing clinics and high‑quality, limited‑scope pro bono services, and oversees operational and programmatic aspects of the Center’s new initiatives.

Responsibilities

Plans and develops initiatives in collaboration with Center leadership, leading advocacy efforts such as legislative campaigns, amici briefs, and stakeholder engagement.

Oversees operational and programmatic aspects of Economic Justice Programs and Pro Bono Initiatives, including volunteer‑staffed court‑based legal clinics and other limited‑scope services, pilots, service trips, and remote opportunities.

Manages pro bono programs: develops legal templates, program manuals, policies, protocols, recruiting, training, supervising, and recognizing volunteers.

Serves as principal point of contact for day‑to‑day operation of consumer debt defense programs, coordinating with court personnel, partners, and volunteers.

Oversees case‑management system, ensuring data integrity and tracking.

Identifies and pursues funding opportunities and manages grant reporting related to consumer defense and other initiatives.

Leads community engagement to ensure client‑centered programming.

Management Responsibilities

Supervises individual contributors and occasionally other managers, handling hiring, training, performance management, and compensation decisions.

Additional Functions

Helps develop Know‑Your‑Rights and outreach materials for pro bono initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • J.D. degree.
  • Admission or eligibility to the bar of the State of New York.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a lawyer, preferably in a civil legal services organization and providing consumer defense.
  • Experience with pro bono and volunteer management.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.

Minimum Starting Salary: $105,000

Maximum Starting Salary: $130,000
