Digital Field Technician

LinkNYC is a first-of-its-kind communications network that provides free super fast, public Wi‑Fi, phone calls, device charging, and access to city services to millions of New Yorkers and visitors across the five boroughs. And through content programs like Link Local and #Art On Link , LinkNYC is also a platform for community and civic engagement that supports small businesses, community organizations, and local artists.

LinkNYC is delivered through a partnership between the City of New York and City Bridge, a NYC‑based consortium of leading experts in media, technology, and connectivity.

LinkNYC recently received a $200 million investment that will accelerate the expansion of the network throughout New York City, expanding 5G access and bringing free high‑speed Wi‑Fi and other critical services to more New Yorkers in more neighborhoods across the city. Over the next several years, LinkNYC will more than double its current footprint, expanding its free public Wi‑Fi network across thousands of newly deployed, second‑generation 5G‑enabled kiosks, called Link5G.

We’re building out our team to help us achieve our ambitious goals.

As a Digital Field Technical Support Specialist at Intersection, you will assist in maintaining these kiosks in NYC. You should be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and you must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. You should be comfortable working in the elements year‑round. Knowledge of Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs is a plus.

• Assist Digital Field Technician(s) with loading and unloading vehicles
• Perform in‑field replacements of failed consumable parts; i.e. USB boards, Intake Grills
• Perform in‑field power cycling for down kiosks
• Deliver inventory replenishment on‑site and between vendors
• Assemble LinkNYC components in‑house to support repair activities
• Perform in‑house refurbishment of failed LinkNYC components to support replacement of components for the repair operation
• Provision LinkNYC components in‑house with required firmware, software and operating systems
• Perform in‑house testing LinkNYC components to identify cause of failures and current capacity of the component

• Comfort and familiarity with electro‑mechanical components
• Ability to use common hand and power tools, may require use of specialized tools
• Follow documented procedures in fitting, adjusting and proper functioning of parts
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
• Ability to read and understand technical documents and procedures
• Ability to troubleshoot
• Ability to lift and sustain 50 lbs. overhead for a short period of time
• A self‑starter requiring little supervision is preferred

Rate: $20/hr

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a review of motor vehicle records, verification of social security number, and passing a drug test at a certified testing facility.
