Location: New York
Tekni-Plex in Blauvelt, NY is searching for Punch Press Operator(s) for its second shift (4:00 pm - 12:30 am, Monday through Friday). Punch Press Operators are responsible for safely operating punch press equipment to manufacture plastic discs and gaskets using established standards and practices.
Responsibilities- Operates punch press equipment to manufacture plastic discs or gaskets.
- Following standard methods and techniques, processes materials to ensure it meets SQF Food Safety and Quality Codes, product specifications and any special instructional customer specific requirements.
- Properly and safely set up and/or break down production equipment to process specifications to meet requirements of production order.
- Monitors press operation, adjusts settings, and troubleshooting issues.
- Maintains safe operation of production equipment at standard rates.
- Packages finish product as per standards.
- Monitors machine performance as per standard during operation, follows Management Operation System (MOS) metrics and or notifications and escalations.
- Inspects product for conformance to specifications, visually or using gauges or templates, and adjusts machine to correct errors.
- Performs “GO or NO GO” and dimensional measurements using a micrometer, caliper, scale as required. Inform Supervisor/Manager and/or Quality Assurance of non-conformances.
- Removes and/or sorts recycled and non-recycled materials to trash or transfer bins.
- Completes daily recording of production via LN or other defined means utilizing LN Info on the industrial barcode scanner.
- Maintains all equipment and advise the Manager of repairs when necessary.
- Participates in shift exchange activities with those of other shifts to ensure proper flow of information.
- Promotes personal and product safety by complying with ISO 22000 and HACCP requirements, reporting any non-conformances or product safety risks to the immediate supervisor, actively assessing activities to prevent unsafe actions, and maintaining housekeeping in the work area.
- Ensures quality of products and processes are maintained.
- Actively participates in the continuous improvement process (CIP).
- If able, cross-train on all three equipment within the department (punch press, lamination, and slitting) and fill in as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of previous experience operating punch presses or similar manufacturing machinery.
- Must be available to be trained on 1st shift (8:00 am - 4:30 pm) for the first 2 months of employment or until fully trained. Once training is completed, the Punch Press Op. will be transferred to the 2nd shift, from 4:00 pm to 12:30 am.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, and use measuring tools (micrometer, caliper, etc.).
- Must be mechanically inclined: hands-on skills with basic tools, visualizing how components fit together, ability to disassemble and reassemble simple mechanisms.
- Strong attention to detail, patience and observation, carefully working through problems and noticing details, focusing on consistency, and understanding of safety and quality protocols.
- Basic math and computer skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
- Must be safety-conscious.
- Ability to use industrial barcode scanners.
- Physical ability to lift/move materials (up to 50 lbs.), stand for long periods, and perform repetitive motions.
