Job Summary:
Merlin Mold & Manufacturing, Inc. is looking for an experienced CNC Programmer to join our team. This role is essential in programming and optimizing CNC machines for mold-making and precision components. The ideal candidate will have expertise in plastic injection mold tooling machining, G-code programming, and CAD/CAM software, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and accurate manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, test, and refine CNC programs for mold components, tooling, and precision machined parts using Solid Works and Mastercam.
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T specifications to create precise machining instructions.
- Program multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to achieve tight tolerances required for mold and die manufacturing.
- Optimize tool paths, cutting speeds, and feed rates to maximize machining efficiency and tool life.
- Set up and troubleshoot CNC machines, collaborating with machinists to ensure first-piece accuracy.
- Work closely with engineers and toolmakers to support mold builds, repairs, and modifications.
- Maintain and update CNC programs, ensuring documentation accuracy and revision control.
- Follow company safety protocols and industry best practices for precision machining and mold manufacturing.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of CNC programming experience in a mold-making, tool & die, or precision machining environment. - Skills & Knowledge
: - Strong proficiency in Solid Works, Mastercam, or other CAD/CAM software.
- In-depth understanding of mold-making processes, CNC milling, EDM, and grinding operations, as well as manual machining equipment such as Bridgeport, lathes, surface grinders, etc.
- Ability to read blueprints, mold drawings, and GD&T specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining challenges.
- Experience programming multi-axis CNC machines and high-speed machining strategies.
- Familiarity with steel, aluminum, and other materials used in mold manufacturing.
- Experience with 3-axis to 5-axis machining and high-speed cutting strategies for mold manufacturing.
- Background in plastic injection molding tooling or die casting molds.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement techniques.
- Work is performed in a precision machining and mold manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to machining noise, coolant, and tool steels.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
