CNC Operator​/CNC Machinist

Location: Horseheads

Akkodis is seeking a CNC Operator/CNC Machinist for a Contract to Hire with a client in Elmira, NY/Horsehead, NY. The ideal candidate must have strong CNC programming expertise to support troubleshooting of milling/lathe/EDM equipment and implement new machining programs with accurate measurement and validation.

Rate Range: $30/hour to $ 35 /hour;
The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

CNC Operator/CNC Machinist job responsibilities include:

• Develop, program, and validate CNC machining processes for milling, lathes, EDMs, and related equipment (G/M code; Fanuc/Siemens), ensuring first-time-right execution.
• Troubleshoot and optimize existing programs and machine performance using data-driven analysis; implement corrective actions to improve cycle time, quality, and tool life.
• Measure and qualify parts using manual gauges and automated metrology; update offsets and program parameters to maintain dimensional compliance (GD&T).
• Design/select tooling, holders, and fixtures; coordinate sourcing and testing and align/qualify components including 4th/5th-axis tables, probes, and tool setters.
• Create and maintain CAD/CAM assets (e.g., Mastercam and posts), documentation, setup sheets, and standard work; drive continuous improvement and cost reduction.
• Train and support Machine Operators on maintenance, tool changes/offsets, data transfers, and best practices; collaborate with vendors for machine acceptance and upgrades.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in manufacturing technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• Minimum 2+ years of CNC programming experience in a production environment.
• Proficiency in CNC programming (G/M code) for milling/lathe/EDM-preferably on Fanuc and/or Siemens-with solid GD&T interpretation and CAD/CAM (e.g., Mastercam) skills.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems, perform data-driven process improvements (speeds/feeds, offsets, tooling), and validate parts using manual and automated metrology.

Pay Details: $30.00 to $35.00 per hour
