Job Description

The Night Shift Crater is primarily responsible for crate side production and preparation work, including cutting lumber and plywood, cutting foam, preparing materials and parts for day crew assembly, and assembling crate sides (with and without foam) according to cut sheets to be ready for the day crews to build and pack.

Shift hours:
Approximately 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Reports to:

Crating Shop Manager

• Cut crate sides scheduled for night production. This includes cutting plywood and other lumber, cutting foam, and partially assembling crate sides (with and without foam) according to written and diagramed instructions.
• Execute precision cuts and joinery using table saws, miter saws, panel saws, routers, sliders, and standard shop power and hand tools.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment; sweep down and reset tools and stations at end of shift.
• Perform basic equipment checks and report any tool issues, blade changes, or supply shortages to the Shop Manager.
• Log completed work and time per job for accurate job costing and morning handoff to the day team.
• Coordinate with the day-shift Shop Manager via written notes, shop logs, or shared apps to ensure continuity across shifts.
• Take pride in the quality and finish of every crate — this work protects irreplaceable artwork.

• Required:
  
  2+ years of professional woodworking, cabinetmaking, finish carpentry, or crating experience.
• Strong working knowledge of shop power tools: table saw, miter saw, router, drill, pneumatic nailers, panel saw.
• Ability to read and execute from cut lists, shop drawings, and basic build specifications.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and pride in craftsmanship.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and stand/move throughout an 8-hour shift.
