Inspectors are responsible for verifying that the steel joists and joist girders manufactured by Vulcraft of New York, Inc. meet quality standards and expectations. Inspectors must follow guidelines outlined in the shop practices manual as well as those set forth by the customer as defined on the shop order through visual inspection of all welds and physical measurement of manufacturing materials and finished products.
Inspectors are also responsible for communicating with and working cohesively with teammates from other departments, as needed. They must identify non‑conforming products and take appropriate corrective action. Inspectors must have excellent attention to detail and organizational skills along with the ability to work in a fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environment. This role does require working overtime with little or no advance notice, as needed.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Compensation Data21.81–23.31 per hour plus a weekly production bonus and annual ROA bonus. For inspector positions, production bonus is paid at 200% of base rate for production hours. The combined annual pay could range from $90,000 – $115,000, depending on performance.
Minimum Qualifications- At least 3 years of welding experience
- Weld certified
- Weld inspection experience OR Experience in the Vulcraft design/manufacturing process of steel joists and joist girders
- Knowledge and experience with SJI and AWS specifications
- Working knowledge of SAP
- Formal welding education
- CWI certification
