Position
Space and Defense Performance Leader – 3rd Shift (Onsite, East Aurora, NY)
OverviewResponsible for daily operational ownership of one or more machine shop teams of 15–20 machinists, driving performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost while shaping team capability through workforce planning, hiring, training, development, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and manage a team of 15–20 employees in a machine shop setting.
- Collaborate with the Manufacturing Manager to develop and implement improvement plans (Value Stream or Production Improvement Plans) to achieve high‑impact results.
- Define, track, and measure short‑ and long‑term team goals aligned with organizational strategy.
- Use established standard work and production documentation to optimize personnel and equipment utilization, workflow, and cost efficiency.
- Hire, train, evaluate, and develop team members; manage performance and succession/growth opportunities.
- Proactively address and resolve employee relations issues; administer counseling, discipline, and performance feedback fairly and consistently.
- Ensure accurate employee time reporting and consistent application of personnel policies.
- Support safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with 2years’ machine‑shop experience, or associate’s degree with 4years’ machine‑shop experience.
- Minimum 5years’ direct management experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership and people‑management skills.
- Experience with lean/manufacturing/process improvement tools (preferred).
- Effective communication and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Ability to analyze production metrics and drive corrective actions.
- Competitive salary: $75,000–$110,000 per year.
