Role DescriptionWe are a growing apparel brand looking for a hands‑on, highly organized Head of Production / Director of Production to oversee the end‑to‑end production process from development through delivery. The Director of Production is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Long Island City, NY. This is a critical leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced entrepreneurial environment and enjoys working closely with founders to bring products to market.
The ideal candidate has 5‑7+ years of apparel production experience
, is an exceptional communicator, is comfortable managing people and cross‑functional teams, and knows how to build strong relationships with factories and vendors. You are proactive, detail‑oriented, solutions‑driven, and able to keep multiple production timelines moving simultaneously.
- Own the production calendar and ensure all milestones are met from development through final delivery.
- Manage production with domestic and international factories, ensuring quality, pricing, and on‑time delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with manufacturing partners, mills, trim suppliers, and vendors.
- Partner closely with the founders, design, technical design, and merchandising teams to bring collections from concept to production.
- Collaborate with Technical Design to ensure accurate tech packs, fit approvals, grading, and production specifications.
- Review and approve production timelines, pre‑production samples, TOP samples, and bulk approvals.
- Monitor factory performance, capacity, and production schedules while proactively identifying and resolving delays.
- Negotiate production costs, lead times, and minimum order quantities while maintaining product quality.
- Ensure all products meet brand quality standards before shipment.
- Coordinate with logistics and freight partners to ensure timely shipments and deliveries.
- Track purchase orders, production status, and inventory needs to support product launches.
- Develop contingency plans for production or shipping issues and communicate updates to leadership.
- Implement and improve production processes, SOPs, and reporting systems as the company scales.
- Manage and mentor members of the production team, fostering accountability and collaboration.
- Analyze production performance, costs, and vendor metrics to identify efficiencies and cost‑saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with quality, ethical manufacturing, and sustainability standards where applicable.
- 5–7+ years of experience in apparel production, sourcing, or manufacturing.
- Experience working in a growing fashion brand preferred.
- Strong understanding of apparel construction, garment manufacturing, technical design, fabrics, trims, and production processes.
- Experience working directly with overseas and domestic factories.
- Proven ability to manage multiple production calendars and deadlines simultaneously.
- Comfortable making decisions in a fast‑moving environment with shifting priorities.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management experience.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work directly with founders and cross‑functional teams.
- Experience managing and developing teams.
- Highly proficient in Excel, Google Sheets, and PLM/ERP systems (or similar production management software).
- Detail‑oriented with strong problem‑solving abilities and a proactive mindset.
We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, anticipates problems before they happen, and keeps production moving without constant oversight. This person should be equally comfortable reviewing production reports, troubleshooting factory issues, collaborating with design on product details, and updating leadership on timelines and risks.
