We are seeking a performance‑driven, highly motivated supervising Smart Building Consultant for our New York office.
The ideal candidate will bring diverse experience to deliver intelligent and sustainable facilities, including expertise in future‑enabling trends such as converged networks and IoT technology to promote occupant wellness. This role collaborates with the national ICT team to grow local services by seeking new business opportunities and leveraging the firm’s smart‑technology competitive edge.
Job ResponsibilitiesAs the lead BMS Consultant, you will build a staff, coordinate instrumentation and controls support activities, and maintain internal and external client satisfaction. You will manage team members responsible for preparing controls design drawings and integrated systems specifications for aviation, critical facilities, financial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and other markets.
Responsibilities may include travel across the US and interfacing directly with internal clients at other offices and client personnel at state‑of‑the‑art facilities.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and perform system design calculations.
- Select equipment for building systems and write reports.
- Assist clients in vendor selection and procurement of “best‑of‑breed” solutions.
- Attend project meetings while interfacing with clients and contractors.
- Interface with internal project managers, site leaders, and practice area leaders.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design teams.
- Manage quality control and resource management.
- Support business development activities and client relationship management.
- Perform financial management of projects.
- Develop and maintain up‑to‑date BMS processes and standards.
- Manage performance of direct team reports.
- Collaborate with leadership for hiring activities.
We are looking for a Lead BMS consultant who can oversee all client efforts, demonstrating an understanding of owner/client business strategies and revenue goals, and the ability to anticipate challenges. Success in this role requires technical expertise complemented by self‑motivation, relationship‑building skills, effective communication, and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in BMS/EPMS/DCIM/SCADA system design, implementation, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (exceptional candidates may substitute significant experience).
- 12+ years of experience in the controls and instrumentation industry as a consultant, contractor, or client facility manager.
- Thorough knowledge of HVAC/electrical instrumentation design and building‑control sequence of operations.
- Knowledge of building IT infrastructure and basic understanding of low‑voltage technologies including security, lighting control, and fire alarm systems.
- Understanding of smart‑building technology convergence and low‑voltage subsystem integration for IT and OT network infrastructure design.
- Knowledge of building analytical software platforms, rules, formulas, dashboards for identifying anomalies and energy conservation measures.
- Effective team player able to work independently or in a team environment.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills; recent industry publications (presentations, webinars, trade publications) are a plus.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- Active involvement with ASHRAE, CABA, and related organizations.

SalaryNew York Pay Range: $128,276 – $185,414 USD.
