Position DescriptionJob Summary
The Ground Person Quarry is responsible for supporting daily quarry operations through general labor, housekeeping, inspections, material handling, and assistance with plant operations and maintenance activities. This position works throughout the quarry around heavy equipment and aggregate processing systems and helps maintain safe, clean, and efficient operations.
Essential Functions
1.
Protect Family and Friends. Follow all Company Safety Policies and Procedures and Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations while supporting business activities, objectives, and programs to maintain a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
2.
Respect and Engage. Monitor quarry operations as directed and collaborate with operators, mechanics, supervisors, and other team members to support safe and efficient production.
3.
Compulsive Tinkering. Assist with routine maintenance and repairs by preparing and staging tools, materials, and equipment and supporting work on conveyors, crushers, screens, and other quarry equipment.
4.
Mastery. Conduct workplace examinations and inspect assigned quarry areas to identify and communicate hazards, maintenance needs, equipment concerns, and other conditions that could affect safe operations.
5.
Efficiency. Maintain clean and organized work areas by removing accumulated material, debris, and other obstructions around processing equipment, walkways, and operating areas to support safe and reliable production.
6.
Dedication. Support material processing and production activities by monitoring material flow, clearing material as directed, assisting operators, and safely performing ground-level tasks around quarry equipment.
7.
Communicate. Use two-way radios and other established communication methods to coordinate activities with operators, supervisors, truck drivers, and team members and communicate changing site conditions or operational concerns.
8.
Safety Always Wins. Direct trucks and equipment through designated quarry areas when required and work safely around mobile equipment, conveyors, processing equipment, ladders, platforms, and elevated work areas.
9.
Ownership and Caring. Perform general labor and other operational support activities as assigned to address changing production and maintenance needs and help keep quarry operations running effectively.
Requirements, Education and Experience
1. Prior experience in aggregates, crushing, asphalt, construction, quarry, mining, or a related heavy-industrial environment required.
2. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment or plant machinery required.
3. Welding and fabrication experience required, including cutting, grinding, fitting, and basic structural repais.
4. MSHA certification or willingness and ability to obtain required training.
5. Ability to work safely around moving equipment, elevated work areas, conveyors, and heavy materials.
6. Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.
7. Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, work orders, safety procedures, and basic diagrams.
8. Valid drivers license required
9. High school diploma or GED preferred.
10. Authorized to work in the U.S.
