THE OPPORTUNITY DIRECTOR OF MANUFACTURING

High-End Furniture | Craft + Advanced Manufacturing

Mark Jupiter is looking for an exceptional Director of Manufacturing to lead the next evolution of our production operation in Brooklyn.

This is not a traditional millwork production role.

We design and build highly custom furniture and architectural pieces for some of the most demanding residential, hospitality, retail and corporate projects in the country. Our work brings together traditional craft, advanced manufacturing, engineering, CNC fabrication, metalwork, finishing and an ever-expanding range of materials and processes.

As the company enters its next stage of growth, we are looking for an A-player who can take complete ownership of manufacturing and help us build a truly world-class production organization.

You may already be running production for a high-end furniture, millwork or architectural fabrication company and feel that you have taken that environment as far as you can.

Or you may be a senior manufacturing leader inside a much larger organization who is ready to get closer to the product, the people and the decisions — and have a genuine hand in shaping what comes next. Either way, you know how to build things because you have done it yourself.

We are looking for an experienced craftsperson turned manufacturing leader: someone who can walk onto a production floor and immediately understand the work, earn the respect of skilled makers and bring the systems, discipline and leadership required to operate at a significantly higher level.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

You will have responsibility for the performance of our entire manufacturing operation, including:

  • Production planning, scheduling and manpower allocation across multiple complex projects
  • Leadership and development of our craftspeople and production team
  • Workflow, throughput, quality, labor efficiency and on-time delivery
  • Coordination across woodworking, cabinetry, CNC, metalwork, finishing, assembly and installation
  • Working closely with design, engineering and project management to successfully move ambitious ideas into production
  • Establishing clear standards, accountability and measurable production performance
  • Identifying bottlenecks and solving problems before they affect the schedule
  • Developing better manufacturing methods, tooling, equipment and processes
  • Building the systems and infrastructure required to support significant company growth
  • Maintaining an uncompromising level of craftsmanship while increasing efficiency and predictability
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

This role requires someone with substantial experience leading a sophisticated production environment.

You should have:

  • Significant leadership experience in high-end furniture, architectural millwork, custom fabrication or another complex manufacturing environment
  • A strong personal background in craft, fabrication or manufacturing
  • Deep knowledge of production planning, scheduling, labor management and workflow
  • Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects with demanding quality and schedule requirements
  • The ability to lead highly skilled craftspeople with credibility, clarity and respect
  • Strong financial and operational instincts around labor, efficiency, margin and capacity
  • An obsessive eye for quality without losing sight of schedule or profitability
  • The ability to introduce structure and accountability without creating unnecessary…
