Rochester Precision Optics LLC seeks an Injection Molding Process Technician to set up, optimize, and troubleshoot injection molding processes for precision optical components in our Manufacturing & Production department. You will perform mold and material changeovers, establish stable processes, monitor part quality, and resolve molding issues to meet strict optical and dimensional requirements. Working in a collaborative, engineering-driven culture, you'll partner with tooling, quality, and manufacturing engineers, contribute to continuous improvement, and support advanced imaging, aerospace, defense, and medical programs using state-of-the-art molding and metrology technologies at our New York facility.
Responsibilities
- Set up, start, and optimize injection molding processes for precision optical components
- Perform mold changes, material changes, and machine adjustments to meet specifications
- Monitor part quality using gauges and optical inspection tools; adjust processes as needed
- Troubleshoot molding, tooling, and material issues to minimize scrap and downtime
- Document process parameters and maintain standardized work instructions
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on new tooling and process improvements
- Perform routine machine and mold maintenance in coordination with maintenance staff
- Support continuous improvement, 5
- S, and lean manufacturing initiatives
- Follow safety, quality, and cleanroom/handling procedures for optical components
Required Skills
- Injection molding machine setup and changeover
- Scientific molding principles (pressure, temperature, fill time)
- Thermoplastic material handling and drying
- Tooling and mold maintenance basics
- Process troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
- Use of gauges, micrometers, and optical inspection tools
- Reading technical drawings and process documentation
- Basic PLC/HMI machine interface operation
- Statistical process control (SPC) and data collection
- Adherence to ISO/quality management systems
