This is a hands-on machining position for someone comfortable working in a prototype-oriented environment. You'll manufacture custom plastic components using CNC and manual equipment, working from drawings, models and samples rather than simply loading parts and pressing cycle start.

The company supports customers across aerospace, defense, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, automotive and other industries. Its in-house capabilities include CNC milling and turning, routing, engraving, rapid prototyping, fabrication, assembly and precision inspection.

Because this is a fast-moving shop, the ideal machinist can manage setups, make sound decisions at the machine and adapt as jobs and priorities change.

️ What you'll be doing

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills and lathes
  • Operate manual machining equipment as needed
  • Manufacture prototype and custom plastic components
  • Review drawings, models, instructions and samples before production
  • Select the appropriate machine, tooling and operating parameters for each job
  • Load, edit and troubleshoot CNC programs
  • Set tooling, work offsets and work holding
  • Monitor machining operations for accuracy and part quality
  • Measure components throughout the machining process
  • Inspect completed parts against drawings and specifications
  • Troubleshoot machine, tooling and process issues
  • Perform routine machine maintenance as needed
  • Help keep work moving across the machine shop as jobs and priorities change

What we're looking for

Required:

  • 2+ years of CNC machining experience
  • CNC machine setup and operating experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience selecting tooling and setting up jobs
  • Ability to take accurate measurements using calipers and other inspection equipment
  • CAM programming or CNC program-editing knowledge
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and equipment issues
  • Comfortable working in a prototype or high-mix environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of West Nyack, New York

Preferred:

  • Fanuc control experience
  • SolidCAM, CAMWorks or Solid Works CAM experience
  • CNC milling and turning experience
  • Manual machining experience
  • CMM inspection experience
  • Experience machining engineered plastics
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles
  • Previous exposure to plastic injection molding
