Pay range: $75,000-$95,000/year

General Statement of Duties

The Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist will support API Operations by helping drive a proactive safety culture across both the North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls locations. This role will assist with daily EHS activities, regulatory compliance, incident prevention, employee training, safety audits, corrective actions, environmental programs, and continuous improvement initiatives. The EHS Specialist will work closely with Operations, Production, Maintenance, Quality, Logistics, Materials, Engineering, and site leadership to ensure employees have a safe working environment and that API remains compliant with applicable OSHA, EPA, DEC, and company safety requirements.

Duties And Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety & Risk Management
  • Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and observations across production, warehouse, and office areas
  • Identify hazards and partner with teams to implement practical corrective actions
  • Support PPE compliance and safe work practices
  • Assist with job hazard analyses, ergonomics, and machine safety reviews
  • Track and follow up on safety issues to ensure timely closure
  • Incident Management
  • Assist in investigating incidents, near misses, and environmental events
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
  • Maintain OSHA logs, incident records, and safety metrics
  • Share incident learnings across departments
  • Training & Engagement
  • Deliver and coordinate EHS training for employees, contractors, and new hires
  • Maintain training records and support compliance tracking
  • Promote participation in safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Reinforce safe behaviors through coaching and field presence
  • Regulatory & Environmental Compliance
  • Support compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and EHS documentation
  • Maintain environmental programs including waste management, chemical handling, and spill prevention
  • Support compliance reporting, schedules, and permits
  • Operational Support
  • Partner with Production, Maintenance, and Engineering to integrate safety into operations
  • Support equipment changes, new processes, and facility upgrades
  • Assist with pre-task planning and non-routine work risk assessments
  • Provide EHS support across North Tonawanda and Niagara sites
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in EHS or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices
  • Strong hazard recognition and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and ability to influence at all levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in manufacturing and warehouse environments with noise and moving equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and conduct inspections
  • Ability to occasionally lift materials and wear required PPE
Work Environment

This position will work in both office and manufacturing environments. The role requires regular presence on the production floor and active engagement with employees, supervisors, and managers. The EHS Specialist must be comfortable working around industrial equipment, powered industrial trucks, cranes, fabrication areas, assembly operations, shipping/receiving areas, and maintenance activities.
