Design and Marketing Associate

Hiring Organization:

The New York Community Trust

Description:

POSITION: Design and Marketing Associate

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, Creative and Digital Media

As New York's largest community foundation, The New York Community Trust (The Trust) fosters and engages in enduring and innovative philanthropy, making grants that bring together the local knowledge and expertise of its team, nonprofits, and partners to help donors fulfill their vision for the causes they love. From education and the arts to health care and the environment, The Trust seeks to improve every aspect of the cultural and civic life of New York City, Long Island, and Westchester.

The Trust is a regional philanthropic leader. In addition to a distinguished competitive grantmaking program, The Trust hosts donor‑advised funds (DAFs) that make grants throughout the United States as well as funder collaboratives that work on the leading edge of philanthropy to improve the lives of New Yorkers. In 2025 it made close to 11,000 grants totaling close to $230 million and has made more than $2 billion in grants in the past decade.

Having celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2024, The Trust has long been a leader in the field, with innovations ranging from establishing the first donor‑advised fund in the 1930s to making landmark grants, including some of the first to fight AIDS, build The High Line, support immigrant communities in the region, and respond quickly in the early days of the COVID‑19 pandemic.

POSITION

DESCRIPTION

The Design and Marketing Associate is an early‑career role ideal for someone excited about nonprofit work, visual storytelling, and learning how a communications department runs. This position supports the Communications & Marketing team through a blend of hands‑on design & creative production (approximately 60%) and administrative and operational support (approximately 40%).

You’ll report to the Assistant Director of Creative and Digital Media and work closely with the Senior Director of Marketing. As part of the Communications and Marketing team, you’ll gain exposure to many aspects of the field and have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across program, donor experience, and development departments.

This is a great role for someone who enjoys being both creative and detail‑oriented, and who takes pride in helping projects move from idea to execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Creative Production (60%)

  • Execute visual design for a range of projects for our NYC, Westchester, and Long Island offices alongside and under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Creative and Digital Media. Projects include print and digital advertising campaigns, newsletters, reports, or other marketing materials.
  • Produce motion graphics and short videos using tools such as Canva, iMovie, or After Effects.
  • Create still and animated graphics for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Linked In.
  • Make edits to documents in InDesign, PowerPoint, and other programs.
  • Support the application of The Trust’s brand consistency and visual clarity across departments such as designing or polishing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Coordinate with printers, manufacturers, and external vendors on projects such as print materials, branded swag, and display production.

Administrative & Operational Support (40%)

  • Process and keep track of Communications & Marketing invoices and contracts.
  • Provide support for managing advertising media buys, including tracking and charting deliverables.
  • Reconcile expenses incurred on the department’s corporate credit card.
  • Maintain and organize digital assets by archiving images and videos in Resource Space, including accurate naming and filing.
  • Update the database with any quality leads from marketing conversions and online forms.
  • Update addresses and manage returned mail in the organizational database.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings.
  • Monitor and update team to‑dos using Click‑Up.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed to support the smooth operation of the Communications & Marketing department.
