Since its founding in 1825, B’nai Jeshurun (BJ) has been at the forefront of the American Jewish experience. Now in its third century, BJ’s vision is centered on the spiritual work of transformation and the creation of a Jewish path that is authentic, profound, and supportive of all members as they seek and live their purpose to the fullest.
BJ’s spiritual leaders, together with its nearly 2,000 member families, are dedicated to fostering a diverse, dynamic, and inclusive community that offers multiple avenues for Jewish religious life while providing mutual support for spiritual growth. BJ is committed to honoring tradition while continuously reimagining and innovating practices and programs to create a vibrant, contemporary, and relevant Jewish experience. Its services and programs welcome thousands of individuals and families from across the country and beyond, many of whom now regularly participate in prayer and learning online.
In 2025, as BJ celebrated its historic bicentennial, the organization honored its legacy, lifted up the stories of those who shaped the community’s present, and helped secure its future—ensuring that the next 200 years will be as transformative as the first.
BJ is led by Rosh Kehilah and Senior Rabbi Felicia Sol and Executive Director Steven Melzer. The organization has an annual operating budget of $13 million, with approximately 80% from contributed revenue, and a staff of approximately 50 full‑time and 10 part‑time employees.
Job OverviewYou are someone who can see the big picture and get the work done. You are a creative, highly organized digital communications professional who knows how to shape content strategy, manage day-to-day execution, and turn meaningful moments into compelling digital stories.
You understand that not every piece of content belongs everywhere. You know how to differentiate by platform, audience, tone, and format. You have good instincts about when something should become a short video, a still photo, a carousel, a GIF, a meme, a quote graphic, or a simple but well-written post.
As part of BJ’s Communications team and reporting to the Associate Director of Communications, the Social Media and Communications Manager will help lead BJ’s digital presence across social media, email, livestream, website, and event communications in close collaboration with BJ’s rabbinic and program teams. This role is both strategic and hands‑on: the right person will bring ideas, judgment, and initiative, while also drafting posts, building emails, updating the website, creating registrations, and capturing content on site when needed.
This person will manage BJ’s social media channels, develop creative content ideas, and help generate short-form digital content from BJ’s programs, services, and live streams, including weekly Divrei Torah from BJ’s rabbis, music from services, community and volunteer gatherings, and other expressions of BJ’s spiritual and communal life.

- Trend Monitoring: Monitor digital communications trends and suggest thoughtful ways BJ can continue to grow its reach and engagement.
