Assistant Athletics Director (or Director) of Fan Engagement and Marketing

Full Time/Part Time

Responsibilities
  • Strategic and effective leadership over fan experience, marketing, ticket sales and operations, community engagement, hospitality, and special events within the Colgate Athletics Department.
  • Develop a comprehensive fan engagement strategy with innovative approaches to create an exciting atmosphere at all Colgate Athletics events.
  • Lead planning, coordination, and implementation of fan engagement and marketing plans, including promotions, giveaways, in-game crowd engagement, music, and video production.
  • Ensure positive relationships between the Athletics department and key stakeholders such as alumni, local community, fans, parents, faculty, and other University constituents, including building effective relationships with Colgate students and fans to promote a fan‑centered game day culture for all sports.
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Athletics Director for External Operations and the Director of Communications & Creative Media on a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy, cultivating fan engagement on all Colgate Athletics social media sites.
  • Execute effective marketing for promotions and events via all channels and media in collaboration with the Director of Communications & Creative Media.
  • Oversee the athletic marketing budget, exercising independent discretion on purchases and budgetary decisions for athletics marketing and fan engagement, ticket sales and operations in alignment with divisional priorities and policies.
  • Assist in generating leads for corporate sponsor ships and aid in the execution of partnership agreements in line with the overall corporate partner strategy.
  • Support athletics fundraising efforts as directed.
  • Oversight, supervision, and cultivation of the Colgate Pep Band and Pom Team partnerships.
  • Supervise the Marketing and Ticketing Coordinator and undergraduate interns; ensure selection and hiring of high‑quality employees, fair work assignments, quality performance, and appropriate performance assessments.
  • Conduct additional varsity sport supervision responsibilities, including evaluation of assigned programs, effective oversight, communication, and collaboration with Head Coach(es).
  • Model positive behaviors and leadership for student‑athletes, coaches, and staff; maintain compliance with NCAA, conference, athletic department, and university policies.
Professional Experience / Qualifications
  • Two or more years of collegiate athletics, professional sports, or comparable marketing and fan engagement experience.
  • Five or more years of collegiate athletics, professional sports, or comparable marketing and fan engagement experience (preferred).
  • Previous experience in direct supervision of staff, including student interns and workers.
  • Previous experience as a sport administrator for an NCAA varsity sport program (preferred).
Education

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

A Master’s degree is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Certifications

A current valid driver’s license, in accordance with the University’s Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy, is required.
