Description:
SUNY Westchester Community College’s Marketing & Communications Department is seeking energetic and creative students to join our Viking Street Team. This paid internship is designed for students passionate about social media, digital storytelling, and engaging with the campus community. Interns will create engaging content, including Instagram Reels and Tik Tok videos, to highlight student life, events, and academic programs at SUNY WCC.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Capture video and photo content from events, student activities, and campus life to produce short-form social media videos (Reels/Tik Toks).
- Interviews & Engagement: Conduct on-the-spot interviews with students, faculty, and staff to highlight different perspectives and experiences at SUNY WCC.
- Editing & Post-Production: Edit footage into polished, engaging content using mobile and desktop editing tools. Ensure content aligns with SUNY WCC’s branding and messaging.
- Social Media Trends & Research: Stay updated on trending social media challenges, sounds, and formats to keep content fresh and relevant.
- Content Scheduling & Strategy: Collaborate with the marketing team to plan content release schedules and brainstorm new campaign ideas.
- Live Event Coverage: Provide real-time updates and event coverage through Instagram Stories and Tik Tok clips.
Weekly Workflow (8 Hours Per Week):
- Content Collection (3-4 hours per week): Attend campus events, interview students, and film engaging clips.
- Editing & Post-Production (3-4 hours per week): Edit and finalize videos for publishing.
- Team Check-Ins & Strategy (1 hour per week): Attend a weekly meeting to discuss content performance, trends, and upcoming events.
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop skills in digital storytelling and social media content creation.
- Gain hands-on experience with video production and mobile editing software.
- Learn how to engage an online audience and build a digital brand.
- Understand social media strategy and analytics.
- Enhance communication and interviewing skills through student engagement.
Qualifications:
- GPA: 2.5 or better, student in good standing
- 24 hours of earned credits at time of internship
- Ability to work 8 hours a week/120 hours over the semester in the internship
- Approval of Curriculum Chair in Major
- Currently enrolled at SUNY WCC.
- Passion for social media, digital content creation, and storytelling.
- Basic video recording and editing skills (experience with apps like Cap Cut, Adobe Rush, or Canva is a plus).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
