Reporting to the Senior Director, Social Media and Creator Hub, the Assistant Director of Social Media is an integral member of the University Marketing and Communications ( UMC ) team, serving as a strategic, multi-platform content creator and communicator supporting a high-level, on-trend social strategy to strengthen brand awareness, elevate reputation, and engage diverse audiences across an array of priorities.
The Assistant Director is a member of the Content and Channel Engagement team responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to maximize the impact of Fordham’s content across various channels. The Assistant Director will play a key role in content creation and community management, ensuring that the University maintains a strong social media presence and helping grow affinity to Fordham with content and engagement that showcases Fordham’s strengths, vibrant student body, and care for the whole person.

Essential Functions

Strategy & Brand Alignment: Develops and implements social media strategies that elevate University branding, ensures a consistent brand voice, and adheres to industry best practices.
Content Creation & Scheduling: Creates, curates, and schedules high-quality copy, images, and video assets using a structured content calendar for consistent posting.
Student Program Management: Directs the “Ramfluencer Program,” managing a diverse network of student creators to source and pitch authentic, high-performing user-generated content ( UGC ).
Intern Supervision: Recruits, onboards, and manages seasonal student interns, providing creative mentorship and quality control to maintain strict brand standards.
Cross-Departmental

Collaboration:

Partners with campus departments to execute targeted campaigns promoting University events, programs, and achievements.
Community Engagement: Monitors channels and engage professionally with students, alumni, and faculty to foster a vibrant online community.
Event Coverage: Attends on- and off-campus events to capture real-time photo and video content.

Additional Functions

Analytics & Reporting: Translates social data into actionable insights and strategic ROI reports for senior management to guide future content decisions.
Crisis Management: Assists leadership and University officials in managing sensitive situations and ensuring accurate, timely communications during crises.
Campus Consultation & Training: Provides guidance and conduct training sessions for departments and staff on social media tools, trends, and execution best practices.
Innovation & Trend Tracking: Monitors emerging social media trends and platforms to recommend innovative strategies that enhance the University’s digital presence.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 4 years of experience in social media management.
