Chaloner has partnered with the Shalom Hartman Institute on their search for a Director of Development Marketing.

Mission and Philosophy

The Shalom Hartman Institute is a leading research and educational center serving Israel and world Jewry. We work to enrich the moral and spiritual life of Israel and the Jewish people, deepen the commitment to pluralism and Israel’s Jewish and democratic character, and rebuild the covenant between Israel and the Jewish world. Through our community of outstanding scholars and educators, the Institute develops innovative responses to the challenges of our time, cultivates a new generation of leaders and change agents, and builds transformational educational projects that help inspire a better Judaism and a better Israel for the 21st century.

The

Opportunity

The Director of Development Marketing leads the creation and execution of marketing and communications strategies that support the philanthropic goals of the Shalom Hartman Institute. Reporting to the Vice President of Philanthropic Engagement, this role is responsible for crafting compelling donor-facing narratives, producing key development publications, and designing digital and campaign strategies that inspire philanthropic engagement. This is a newly created position, established to meet the growing communications and marketing needs of a development team that has expanded significantly in recent years.

As the Institute builds out its individual giving program and Giving Society, and grows its regional presence across the New York Tri-State area, Florida, the West Coast, the Midwest, Canada and beyond, there is a pressing need for a dedicated professional who can bring both strategic vision and executional excellence to development-focused marketing. This person will serve as the primary marketing resource for the development team, working closely with colleagues in New York and across regional offices, while liaising with the Institute’s broader marketing and communications team to ensure brand alignment.

This position plays a central role in communicating the Institute’s impact to donors and partners. The Director will oversee the development of annual and impact reports, donor communications, digital fundraising campaigns, and other strategic and promotional collateral. The role requires a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with exceptional writing, design, and communication skills who can translate complex ideas and programmatic work into clear, compelling messaging — and who can pivot quickly in response to shifting priorities and time-sensitive needs.

Working closely with colleagues across marketing, development, communications, and program teams, the Director of Development Marketing will serve as a strategic thought partner in shaping how the Institute communicates its work and vision to philanthropic audiences.

  • Create donor-focused impact reports that highlight outcomes, learning, and programmatic achievements.
  • Develop and manage a range of donor-facing collateral, including campaign materials, case statements, presentations, event invitations, and stewardship pieces.
  • Partner with development staff to create compelling promotional messaging for new initiatives and strategic fundraising efforts as they evolve, including planned giving initiatives and other strategic fundraising efforts.
  • Support the drafting and review of donor proposals as needed, collaborating with the foundation relations team where relevant.
  • Ensure consistent branding, language, and messaging across all regional communications, supporting development staff in New York, Florida, the West Coast, the Midwest, and other emerging markets.
