THE ROLEThe Category Manager, Retail Portfolio will serve as the category and analytics expert for Wella's U.S. Retail Hair and Nail businesses. This role translates shopper, category, customer, and business data into actionable insights, growth opportunities, retailer recommendations, and compelling selling stories that drive portfolio performance. Partnering closely with Sales, Trade Marketing, Brand Marketing, and Retail Activation, this individual will influence category strategy and business planning across key retail customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESCategory Analytics & Insights
- Analyze syndicated, retailer, shopper, and internal data to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
- Diagnose business performance drivers and develop actionable recommendations.
- Quantify opportunities across assortment, distribution, pricing, promotion, merchandising, and shopper behavior.
- Build reporting and dashboards that support business decision-making.
Category Strategy & Customer Development
- Translate category, shopper, and competitive insights into retailer-specific recommendations.
- Support business planning, innovation, and customer strategy through category expertise.
- Develop category reviews, line reviews, and joint business planning recommendations.
- Identify emerging trends and whitespace opportunities.
Storytelling & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Create compelling selling stories and executive-ready presentations.
- Partner with Sales, Trade Marketing, Brand Marketing, Retail Activation, and Finance to activate recommendations.
- Serve as a trusted category expert and thought partner.
- Manage multiple priorities and independently drive projects from insight to action.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5+ years of Category Management, Data & Analytics, Trade Marketing, or related experience.
- Experience with syndicated data such as Circana, NielsenIQ, or equivalent.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to work with complex datasets and identify meaningful business insights.
- Demonstrated ability to translate data into clear, actionable business recommendations
- Strong understanding of category management, shopper behavior, market dynamics, and the retail landscape.
- Exceptional presentation skills, with ability to build a clear narrative from data.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Strong communication, project management, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and operate comfortably in ambiguity.
We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, skills and in comparison to internal incumbents currently in similar roles.
