Organizational context:

This internship is located in the Sales and Marketing Section, Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications at the UN Secretariat in New York City. The Division promotes UN knowledge and outreach objectives through publications. The intern will work under the Marketing Officer, gaining practical exposure to publishing, marketing, and communications within an international organization.

Job purpose:

The purpose of this internship is to provide practical exposure to publishing, marketing, communications, and audience analytics within an international organization. The intern will undertake projects focused on analyzing and enhancing the marketing reach and audience engagement of United Nations Publications. This role contributes to promoting UN knowledge and outreach objectives by supporting the development of marketing campaigns, promotional materials, and audience engagement strategies, ultimately strengthening the visibility and accessibility of UN Publications.

Responsibilities:

Conduct research and analysis of current marketing practices, audience engagement trends, and promotional approaches for UN Publications, providing recommendations for enhanced outreach. Contribute to developing sample integrated marketing campaigns, including messaging, communication channels, and performance indicators. Support the creation of promotional materials and draft sample content for various communication platforms. Assist in designing and analyzing surveys to assess audience awareness and engagement, summarizing findings.

Compile and analyze sales, marketing, and audience engagement data to identify trends and produce reports. Participate in planning public outreach initiatives by researching best practices and documenting lessons learned. Prepare a final presentation summarizing research, recommendations, and strategies.

Education:

Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school program, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level), or have graduated with a university degree (minimum bachelor's level). Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official UN language is desirable. Computer literacy in standard software applications is necessary.

Work experience:

No work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to marketing, publishing, or communications is required. Applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and its Charter ideals.
