Public Relations Intern

Issues Management Group (IMG) , a top strategic communication and public affairs firm, is looking for a talented, post-grad intern with the desire to work across accounts and disciplines to join our growing New York team.

This isn’t an opportunity to do coffee runs; we show our interns the ins and outs of an established public relations firm. IMG offers an exciting and dynamic learning environment focused on expanding our interns’ integrated public relations skillset. We look for interns who are interested in learning more about media, government and community relations, and putting their skills to use.

Your experience will include seeing first‑hand what it takes to pitch the media; generate quality (traditional and digital) media coverage; write news releases and blog posts; assist with event planning; and create digital content.

This position pays $22/hour. This is a full‑time, 6‑month internship with potential to turn into a permanent position.

Our office is currently operating on a hybrid model. Candidates must be able to commute to our midtown office three days per week.

• Regularly monitor news outlets relevant to clientele and send coverage
• Provide administrative support to various account teams, which includes drafting agendas, taking notes on client calls, formatting documents, creating monthly memos, and setting up meetings
• Gain experience in media relations through drafting pitches, press releases, briefing books, media advisories, media lists, and more
• Draft social media content and blog posts as needed
• Conduct research to support various client, sector, and firm projects and initiatives
• Provide event support as needed

• Has availability five days a week from 8:30AM – 5:30PM Monday through Friday
• Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Communications, or related field
• Prior communications internship experience required, ideally in an agency, campaign, or government setting
• Willing to travel to various client sites within the Tri-State area
• Excellent writing skills
• General knowledge of the news media landscape
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
• Ability to communicate effectively while working remotely or in person
• Strong work ethic, enthusiastic attitude, proactive nature, and attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
