Anat Gerstein Inc., a full service communications firm serving the nonprofit sector, is seeking an arts and culture communications and public relations professional with five to ten years of relevant experience who will work on collaborative teams in our Arts & Culture practice to: manage accounts; provide strategic communications counsel; and to craft and execute public relations plans that help drive ticket sales, visitation, fundraising, and thought leadership for cultural organizations that include museums, Off-Broadway and regional theaters, multidisciplinary presenters, and arts education providers.

We are seeking a creative, results-driven individual who can generate earned and owned stories that move people to action. The ideal candidate is an informed and passionate “news junkie” who excels at writing, story development and ideation, project management, and has experience with traditional and social media. They should have a solid track record of public relations experience in the arts and culture sector—agency and client services experience highly preferred, or experience handling communications in-house at a cultural institution, and relevant press and sector contacts.

Client services in the firm’s Arts & Culture practice are primarily strategic communications planning and execution for media relations and social media but can extend to donor communications, advocacy communications, collateral development, and events.

Develop and execute multi-channel communications programs for a variety of arts and culture organizations, based on clients’ institutional goals and target audiences.

The ideal candidate will become part of each client’s team, always working to guarantee the highest level of service with proactive ideation, responsiveness, and care.

• Motivated and organized self-starter, capable of managing multiple projects and ensuring successful execution.
• Skilled manager able to supervise a more junior direct report, support peers, and manage up to the practice area’s leadership.
• Highly collaborative and professionally generous; we work to support one another.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Experience developing and pitching culture stories that result in press coverage, as well as with drafting and securing publication for op-eds, letters, or first person essays.
• Experience developing engaging and creative social media content or collaborating with marketing and digital teams.
• Creative thinker who brings ideas, always on the lookout for innovative or clever ways to promote a client, program, or story.
• Strong multi-tasker able to work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent relationship and interpersonal communication skills.
• 5 to 10 years in an arts communications role, ideally working for an agency or cultural nonprofit.
• Strong media contacts with an established network in the greater New York City/metropolitan area and nationally.
• An understanding of New York City government and how it functions is preferred.

$85,000.00 – $ per year, commensurate with experience.
