The Director of Development leads and executes a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the long-term financial sustainability and growth of a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role focuses on private funding, including major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, special events, and donor engagement. The Director works closely with executive leadership, the board of directors, and external stakeholders to cultivate relationships and secure aligned funding.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet annual and long-term revenue goals
- Partner with executive leadership and the board on strategic planning, budgeting, and fundraising initiatives
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, corporate partners, and institutional funders
- Oversee individual giving programs, including annual appeals, planned giving, and donor stewardship
- Research, write, and manage grant proposals and reports
- Build and maintain strong relationships to secure multi-year funding commitments
- Plan and execute fundraising events, donor engagement activities, and capital campaigns
- Leverage board and volunteer networks for fundraising opportunities and provide fundraising guidance
- Oversee donor communications, acknowledgments, impact reporting, and database management
- Track and analyze fundraising metrics to optimize performance and ensure compliance with regulations
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s degree preferred
- 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts, corporate sponsor ships, and grants
- Experience with events, donor engagement, and relationship-based fundraising
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Excellent writing skills, particularly for proposals and donor communications
- Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate fundraising data
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with DHS, HRA, or OTDA preferred
