Overview
Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) — a world‑renowned education and poverty‑fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission‑aligned Outreach Worker to join the Baby College Department.
MissionThe Outreach Coordinator will bring a passion for the HCZ mission: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on‑the‑ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
Program FocusThe Baby College is a program that addresses the needs of children between the ages of 0 through 3 and is a critical piece of our early intervention work. It is our goal to provide families with both a range of information and the support necessary to raise happy and healthy children who enter school ready to learn.
Responsibilities- Manage the Outreach team to recruit, retain, monitor, and provide case management for families
- Supervise the Outreach team to assess families' needs and develop and implement plans to meet those needs
- Acquire knowledge of various community‑based and governmental resources and refer families to and advocate for the acquisition of such resources on behalf of children and their families
- Provide supportive casework counseling (individual and family) and conduct home visits as needed
- Conduct ongoing assessments of the entire family to ensure that children are safe from imminent danger or harm
- Regularly audit case records of Outreach Workers and ensure case notes are current and appropriate actions have been scheduled or taken
- Manage the collection of data, such as surveys and other information collected by the Outreach team, to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Coordinate and organize special events for our families (e.g., Lottery Enrollment, Health Fair, Baby Shower, Graduation)
- Participate in agency‑wide functions and project activities
- Plan and implement program community events
- Serve as a role model, consistently demonstrating HCZ's core values
- Perform other duties assigned
- Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of supervisory experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- 1+ years of outreach and program recruiting experience
- Experience dealing with urban underserved communities is needed
- Expert knowledge of the Harlem community and locations where parents are connected
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrate sensitivity, tact, and professionalism in dealing with others
- Bilingual speakers are desirable, including French, Spanish, and dialects of West African countries
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours
- Energetic and able to do heavy walking
- Ability to work Tuesday – Saturday
Workdays:
Tuesday – Saturday / Off Days:
Monday & Sunday
- Tuesday & Wednesday, 9 AM – 5 PM
- Thursday, 11 AM – 7 PM
- Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM
- Saturday, 8 AM – 4 PM
- Some flexibility during workdays may, at times, be required depending on department‑related events

The annual salary range for this position is $45,000–$55,000 per year with a comprehensive benefits package including employer‑covered health insurance.
