Overview

Reporting to the Co-President & Chief Marketing Officer, the Vice President of Advancement will drive the overall long-term advancement vision and strategies to elevate awareness of Understood, cultivate significant relationships, and yield material progress that enables the sustainable delivery of their mission. This individual will continue building and leading a team that includes Individual, Institutional, and Corporate Giving, as well as Partnerships.

This leader must be fluent in the fundamentals of each area, and be excited to craft their own vision, strategy, and roadmap for the function and to align resources to deliver the plan. With a multitude of funding pathways, this role is about growing and scaling the organization, not a singular focus on covering operating costs.

• Drive the advancement strategy and long-term vision to elevate awareness, cultivate significant relationships, and advance the organization’s mission.
• Build and lead a team including Individual, Institutional, and Corporate Giving as well as Partnerships; ensure fluency across funding areas and align resources to deliver the plan.
• Develop and execute a scalable fundraising model across multiple funding pathways to support growth and sustainability.

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; at least ten years of fundraising experience.
• Experience in both nonprofit and for-profit environments is preferred; candidates with a broad range of backgrounds are considered.
• Strong desire to contribute to Understood’s mission and ability to apply to the role even if not all qualifications align precisely.

The salary range for this position is $250,000 to $300,000. Understood offers a comprehensive health, dental, and insurance plan options as well as a monthly $1,200 defined benefit allowance, 12 weeks of 100% paid parental leave, family planning support, 401(K) matching with immediate vesting, a quarterly wellness stipend, and flexible, unlimited paid time off. The organization has a standard holiday calendar and offers summer Fridays.

Understood is also a dog-friendly office.
