Santa Monica; and Washington, D.C.

NRDC is seeking an Associate Director to work with the Development Donor Systems team in our New York office.

Position Summary

Development Donor Systems is an operations team within Development at NRDC that serves as a center of operational excellence within the department. The team and each team member’s specific responsibilities continue to evolve as we build our technology platform to support the department and organization as they grow. This is an exciting time during which we can shed old processes and ways of working that are no longer serving the institution.

Flexibility, adaptability, and patience will be necessary to perform successfully in this role.

The Associate Director is primarily a people management role, overseeing the Donor Onboarding team within Development Donor Systems; a gift processing and data operations unit that processes donations from multiple channels, performs imports of financial and donor data, and helps to ensure the data integrity of NRDC’s Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database through shared reconciliation processes with various stakeholders.

In addition to managing the team through ongoing process improvement and change management projects involving documentation, training, and stakeholder communication, the Associate Director will also assume responsibility for coaching direct reports on their own career development and performance management of the team.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the processing of gifts via various payment methods from all Development revenue sources (Action Fund (c4), Foundations, Major Gifts, Membership, Principal Gifts) in our Salesforce database, including supervision of the opening, sorting, scanning, and depositing of checks in the office and the lookup of those donors in our Salesforce database
  • Maintain, review, or create as needed, a variety of data integrity reports and standard operating procedures, and perform audits to confirm adherence to those processes, participating in ongoing reconciliation and year‑end close processes with Finance & Accounting
  • Follow established standards and processes while identifying opportunities for improvement, acting as a project and change management resource for team‑wide initiatives and process improvement projects, and maintaining up‑to‑date Gift Processing and Procedures Handbook
  • Manage the performance of the Donor Onboarding team through check‑ins, informal and formal feedback, and reviews as well as the promotion of professional growth
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of donor systems and manage data input, providing regular, necessary updates to the donor database for accuracy
  • Perform data entry of matching gifts, recurring giving, and other gift processing transactions, including integration of accurate recording of donations from third‑party platform revenue sources
  • Upload check batches, credit card transactions, and stock transfers to Salesforce with extreme attention to detail and improvement in quality control processes
  • Accurately implement established gift coding for offline donations, endowment funds, campaigns, etc.
  • Maintain donor confidentiality and ensure compliance with related policies

The above list of duties is not comprehensive but generally demonstrates the types of matters under this position’s responsibility. Other duties may be assigned.
