We celebrate science fiction, like Star Trek, to show that through the generosity and compassion of the human spirit we can achieve a future where we can all succeed through unity and purpose, expand our knowledge, and improve the human condition.

To Proudly Go Inc. is seeking a Chief Operations Officer (COO) to join our key personnel team and lead the organization’s business and operational functions. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO functions as the organization’s chief business officer, overseeing internal operations, merchandise production and procurement, business practices, event operations, and volunteer management.
The COO works closely with all key personnel—particularly the CEO and Chief Financial Officer (CFO)—to ensure efficient operations, strong internal controls, and innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of a fully volunteer-run nonprofit.
This role is well-suited for a collaborative, flexible leader who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys building systems, and is motivated by community impact.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee day-to-day business functions and operational aspects of weekly and special events to ensure efficiency and mission alignment.
- Support innovation efforts by identifying and implementing solutions that fit the organization’s size, budget, and volunteer structure to improve business practices, operational systems, and internal workflows.
- Participate in biweekly management meetings and lead discussions related to the COO’s operational portfolio.
- Oversee and/or directly manage merchandise production, procurement, and inventory.
- Establish and maintain procurement and cash-handling procedures in collaboration with the CEO and CFO.
- Generate and maintain reports on merchandise costs, pricing, sales, and revenue.
- Support volunteer coordination, engagement, and operational readiness in collaboration with key personnel.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive volunteer culture.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Time Commitment Approximately 20 hours per month.
Location New York City–based (hybrid / volunteer).
Ideal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate brings a mix of experience, curiosity, and passion for service. While prior experience is helpful, we value commitment, growth, and collaboration just as highly.
Preferred Experience (not Required)- Retail or merchandise operations
- Finance or budgeting
- Marketing or graphic design
- Volunteer management or team leadership
- Operations, logistics, or nonprofit administration
- Passionate about serving LGBTQIA+ communities and mission-driven work.
- Strategic thinker and problem solver who enjoys building systems and improving processes.
- Creative, adaptable, and not afraid to take on unfamiliar challenges.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Team-oriented leader who values learning, professional development, and shared success.
- Comfortable working in a flexible, evolving, volunteer-run environment that balances structure with adaptability.
- Executive-level professional development in nonprofit operations and leadership.
