TheOpportunity
NABU is seeking a seasoned Major Gifts Fundraiser to lead and grow our portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, family foundations, and philanthropic partners. This role will be instrumental in securing six- and seven-figure gifts, cultivating long-term donor relationships, and helping position NABU as a top-tier investment opportunity in global education and literacy.
This is a highly strategic, externally facing role with direct access to senior leadership and the Board, and meaningful influence over NABU’s long-term funding trajectory.
Key Responsibilities:Major Gifts Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute NABU’s major gifts strategy, with a focus on individual donors and family foundations.
- Build and manage a robust portfolio of high-capacity prospects, with clear cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
- Secure six figure gifts through tailored proposals, strategic briefings, and relationship-driven engagement.
- Partner closely with the CEO and Board members on donor strategy, introductions, and solicitations.
- Lead personalized donor engagement, including one-on-one meetings, events, site visits, and impact briefings.
- Translate NABU’s programs, data, and vision into compelling donor narratives and funding opportunities.
- Ensure best-in-class stewardship, reporting, and relationship management to drive renewals and upgrades.
- Work cross-functionally with Programs, Finance, and Communications to align donor interests with funding needs.
- Support the development of high-quality proposals, pitch decks, and donor-ready materials.
- Help strengthen NABU’s fundraising systems, processes, and donor intelligence over time.
- 7+ years of experience in major gifts or philanthropic fundraising, with a proven track record of closing $250K+ gifts.
- Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and/or family foundations.
- Strong relationship-building skills and comfort engaging senior leaders, donors, and board members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex programs clearly and persuasively.
- Passion for education, literacy, and global impact.
- Experience fundraising for international development, education, or child-focused organizations.
- Familiarity with multi-year grants and unrestricted funding.
- Experience working in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment.
- Comfort working remotely with a globally distributed team.
