The Cure Violence Bronx Outreach Worker Supervisor works with program staff, community residents, businesses, and community-based organizations of all types to implement strategies to reduce and prevent shootings and killings in selected “hot spot” areas within the Bronx 47th Precinct, which comprises Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Edenwald, Olinville and Fishbay. The Outreach Worker Supervisor assists the Program Manager to coordinate regular mobilization and public education activities in addition to assisting the Program Manager in supervising other program staff and conducting community outreach.
TITLE: Outreach Worker Supervisor – B.R.A.G. WEST Cure Violence Bronx
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR, B.R.A.G. WEST CURE VIOLENCE BRONX
LOCATION: 233rd Street, Bronx, NY
HOURS: 35 Hours/Week, Non-Exempt
SALARY
: $57,600 - $61,600
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Supervises Outreach Workers, approves data, planning daily and weekly activities for and with staff, to ensure staff are present in places and at times to be able to intervene on the street most effectively.
- With the Director and staff, review shootings and other significant violent occurrences to plan immediate community response and other appropriate interventions.
- Investigate the causes of shootings/killings to assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups.
- Conduct outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with young people, residents, businesses, and community groups including communities of faith and agencies providing services within the catchment area.
- Represent the program at all relevant community meetings and mobilize all to develop coordinated anti-gun/anti-violence messaging.
- With the Drector, organize and lead regular mobilization activities within the community, including response to individual shootings, rallies, planning and coordination meetings, and public education activities.
- Assist the Director in engaging, motivating, and coordinating the efforts of core and other volunteers.
- Assist the Director in the development and distribution of public education materials, including flyers, posters, stickers, and social media postings to promulgate a “no guns, no shootings” message.
- Work with the community, other outreach programs and local law enforcement to gain information that may be helpful in preventing further violence.
- Document all work including shootings and acts of violence prevented, risk notes, referrals using DOHMH approved database plus coordinate and review staff documentation.
- Identify youth who are gang members and those at risk for joining gangs and intervene in their lives through case management to aid in solving current problems and preventing future ones.
- Provide clients with support and linkages to programs and opportunities in the community (e.g., job programs, GED, drug treatment, and mentoring).
