Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to addressing and preventing vision loss. Our mission is to provide exceptional services that inspire people who are visually impaired to attain their goals. With Lighthouse Guild, people who are at risk for, or affected by, vision loss have access to all the resources necessary to lead full, independent and productive lives.
We provide services, research and education, and advocate to help people with low vision and blindness. Our vision is a world in which no person is limited by their visual capacity.
Lighthouse Guild offers reading services to adult vision-impaired clients in order to support their employment, educational and personal reading needs. One of the most important and beneficial programs Lighthouse Guild provides for our clients is reading services. The on-site program provides reading support Monday through Friday from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. We are looking for volunteers who are comfortable serving one on one with a client.
The off-site program provides reading support at times that are convenient for both the client and volunteer in either a public location, place of buisness or in the client's home.
- Travel to Lighthouse Guild.
- Read a variety of different materials that the clients provide.
- Complete forms and documents as necessary and/or conduct internet searches etc.
- Some positions may involve assistance with simple tasks that support the reading function.
- Must be able to read on a college level.
- Must be reliable and trustworthy.
- Must be able to make a two hour time commitment every week.
- Minimum age: 21+.
Details of the Opportunity: Reading to a client is an ongoing opportunity. Volunteers must be available 2 hours once a week, for at least 6 months During business hours for on site reading.
Participation in this opportunity will require the completion of a volunteer application on our website, and a new volunteer interview.
