DOROT, a New York-based nonprofit social service organization, brings the generations together to create meaningful connections for older adults. Our main headquarters is in Manhattan and an additional regional office is located in Westchester County.
DOROT's Westchester Academic Intern can provide support in the following program areas- Friendly Visiting
- Visiting with an assigned older adult in their home on a weekly basis, providing social engagement
- Package Delivery
- Assisting with DOROT's Package Delivery program which matches volunteers with older adults for one-time seasonal and holiday engagements
- Intergenerational Chess
- Supporting the Intergenerational Chess program which is comprised of teens and older adults; making outreach calls, room setup and more
- Card making
- Facilitating DOROT's Card making program for community partners, allowing volunteers to create handmake birthday, holiday and seasonal cards
- Birthday Revelers
- Having visits with older adults, in their homes, to celebrate their birthdays
- Entering feedback forms
- Creating new constituent profiles
- Updating program participations
- Collecting data by running reports
- Confirming program participations
- Conducting phone surveys
- Sending program invitations
- Requesting additional information from constituents
- Providing program reminders
- Assembling printed materials
- Helping with setup for in-person programming
- Participating in 1:1 weekly supervision meetings
Academic Internships run September - December and January - May. Typically, interns work 8-10 hours per week. Orientation is required (accommodations can be made for those that cannot attend) and will take place on Tuesday, August 19, in the afternoon (exact time TBD), on Zoom. Accommodations can be made for those who cannot attend.
We are primarily seeking one intern for this placement and strongly prefer to interview candidates that can intern completely in-person or on a hybrid model. Though hours and days of the week are flexible, this internship position does require being in-office for at least 3 hours on Wednesdays. Access to a car for home visits and use of one's own personal laptop computer which would be used each day of the internship (whether in-person or remote) is required.

QualificationsCandidates must be college students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of undergraduate study in the fall of 2025.
