Give out books to the South Bronx community!

South Bronx United (SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. Its mission is to prepare youth to succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. SBU serves more than 1,400 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom, including academic enrichment and tutoring, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness, immigration legal services, and other individual and family support.

Hey book lovers!

Our Annual
Literacy Day is Saturday, May 9th, 2026 where we distributed more than 2,000 books each year throughout our free book fair and we are extremely excited to do it again this year! Not only our students but the community as well!

We are looking for amazing volunteers to come out and support us!

Volunteers will support in the following ways:

  • Volunteers will be stationed at a few of our "Free Books" tables at our Recreational Soccer Program locations.
  • Volunteers will be expected to distribute free books to the community [which we provide].
  • Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with some of our Rec divisions [teams] in reading books in small circles.
  • Volunteers will be expected to display and set up or pack away some leftover books and close out tables/sections.
