Position Summary / Overview

The Public Health Intern will play an integral role in supporting the planning and execution of programs within the President’s Office, which are primarily population health events held at NYAM with partners. Events include NYAM’s signature climate and health convening (Health Systems Implementing Climate Action), as well as other climate related events (Weather Smart Primary Care, week of events during Climate Week NYC), as well as events around Food is Medicine and others.

This position is designed for graduate students seeking to fulfill required practicum experience and explore the intersection between today’s most pressing population health challenges and research, policy, and practice. The position will work on a daily basis with the Development team as well as the President’s Office.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct background research on climate and health topics to inform conference themes, speaker selection, and educational materials.
  • Assist with the preparation of conference content, including creating fact sheets, slides, session summaries, and resource guides for attendees.
  • Support outreach to potential speakers, panelists, and partner organizations.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by researching prospective donors, drafting grant proposals, and preparing sponsorship materials.
  • Help coordinate logistics such as attendee registration, communications, and virtual or in-person event support.
  • Assist in post-conference evaluation by gathering feedback, compiling reports, and summarizing key outcomes for stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with staff on public engagement and communication strategies to maximize conference impact.
Learning Objectives
  • Develop skills in translating population health challenges and research for diverse audiences.
  • Gain experience in nonprofit event planning, partnership development, and fundraising.
  • Enhance understanding of the role of public health professionals in climate advocacy and community engagement.
Qualifications
  • Current MPH student in good academic standing.
  • Strong interest in climate change, environmental health, and health equity, among other health challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with data analysis or public health research.
  • Ability to accommodate a hybrid work schedule.

This graduate-level internship will run on a hybrid model. The intern will be expected in the office (1216 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10029) two days a week, depending on workload. The internship is expected to run for approximately 12 weeks (June through August), with a potential for continuing into the fall semester. We expect the position to work 24 hours/week, with flexibility pending class schedules and/or needs of NYAM events.

To receive academic credit for your internship, please check with your advisor/program in advance.
