Employees in this role can work from our Boston, MA office, remotely within the U.S. or a hybrid of these two options. (5% domestic travel)

Position Overview

The primary vehicle for Partners In Health (PIH’s) movement-building work is PIH Engage, a network of volunteer community organizers across the United States (U.S.), Mexico, and Peru. The Community Organizer – Advocacy Lead will join a small national staff team committed to building a movement for the right to health through PIH Engage’s advocacy, fundraising, and community-building campaigns in the U.S. They will be primarily responsible for overseeing the implementation of PIH Engage’s advocacy campaign through designing strategy materials, training grassroots organizers in effective advocacy tactics, facilitating the growth of new advocacy leaders in Engage, and communicating campaign-specific information to the volunteer network and broader supporter network.

Responsibilities

Community Organizing (50%)

Co-lead the PIH Engage network leadership team of volunteers and develop network leadership skills, including through the organization and facilitation of trainings and meetings.

Lead the strategy and identification of high-priority areas for network expansion and retention, and actively recruit new PIH Engage teams.

Coach volunteer leaders of PIH Engage teams across the U.S.

Advocacy (50%)

Lead group trainings and provide personalized support to PIH Engage teams and leaders regarding advocacy goals and civic engagement education and training.

Work closely with the PIH Advocacy Team, the PIH Engage Network Leadership Team, and external partners to lead PIH’s grassroots advocacy strategy and advance PIH’s overall global advocacy strategy.

Manage relationships with select congressional staffers and facilitate bidirectional information flows between grassroots constituents and PIH policy and advocacy leaders.

Develop and maintain PIH’s digital grassroots advocacy strategy to increase grassroots pressure on elected officials and recruit PIH supporters up a ladder of engagement to get involved with PIH Engage.

Coordinate planning and logistics of the PIH Engage Training Institute, including summer constituent congressional meetings, and management of interns.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience leading community organizing or grassroots advocacy campaigns.

Experience delivering training or coaching to varying group sizes (one-on-one, small groups, 100+ people).

Knowledge of health policy, particularly at the federal level with the U.S. Congress.

Ability to effectively lead others toward shared purpose in a complex, fast-paced environment.

Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries.

Passion for the movement for health as a human right and interest in social justice strongly desirable.

Excellent written and verbal communication, especially via phone, email, and video conferencing.

Strong computer skills, including fluency and willingness and ability to quickly learn online communication tools (e.g., mass email software and digital advocacy tools).
