Overview
The Long Island Clean Energy Hub (Hub) provides education and outreach to residents and small businesses in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, with a focus on disadvantaged communities. The Hub helps people learn how to reduce energy use and transition to clean energy for heating, cooling, and powering homes, buildings, and transportation. It also gathers community input on state energy programs and policy and supports workforce development in clean‑energy jobs.
Responsibilities• Oversee Suffolk County Hub staff and lead energy‑related efforts across Long Island.
• Develop and improve Hub services, securing additional resources through grant‑writing and/or fundraising.
• Identify outreach opportunities, assess outreach effectiveness, and communicate among staff and partner organizations.
• Represent Suffolk CCE in meetings with funders and partners; serve on a regional leadership team and provide direction to the Association on energy matters.
• Coordinate project budgets and supervise Suffolk County energy‑related staff.
• Engage residents, businesses, non‑profits, and municipalities to understand Hub work and maintain relationships with partners such as Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
• Manage the Clean Energy Choices social media accounts, website content, and monthly e‑newsletter.
- Master’s degree and related volunteer or work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to support and manage a program.
- Excellent communication skills in English (speaking, reading, writing).
- Ability to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
- Strong interpersonal skills to relate to coworkers, advisors, community, and professional leaders.
- Ability to support staff learning new skills through clear instructions and follow‑up.
- High degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, and sound professional judgment; ability to handle confidential information.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other educational, management, and communication technologies.
- Creative problem‑solving in ambiguous environments and ability to adapt to change.
- Reflective practice to improve programs based on action‑reflection cycles.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Pass background check and meet acceptable standards.
- Flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate.
- Knowledge of, and experience working with, local and state agencies, nonprofits, community resources, and stakeholders, especially those with limited income.
- Background in energy fields or experience with home and building energy efficiency, electrified heating and cooling, solar energy, electric vehicles, and related construction.
- Experience implementing strategies and educational programs that influence community change.
- Planning, environmental science, public health, community development, or environmental toxin mitigation expertise.
- Commitment to addressing environmental and economic inequities through solution‑based approaches.
- Fund‑development or fundraising experience, including grant writing and proposal implementation.
- Foreign language fluency, especially Spanish, and deep experience in disadvantaged communities (domestic or abroad).
- Ability to recruit, train, and support diverse volunteers.
Salary: $80,000–$90,000 per year.
