The Center for Academic Community Engagement at Siena University (ACE) recruits candidates from across the United States to serve with community‑based organizations that work to alleviate poverty in the Capital District. You will coordinate volunteer‑led projects, conduct research, write grants, and facilitate outreach in areas such as education, health care, the environment, housing, criminal justice, and economic development. Over the year you will be matched with an organization, managed on‑site by a supervisor, mentored by VISTA leaders, and trained by an experienced VISTA team.
The cohort model provides community and support to help you make the most of your service year experience.
- Conduct community needs assessments to identify underserved populations.
- Develop comprehensive marketing plans and a marketing toolkit to ensure professional communication and volunteer recruitment.
- Establish and document formal partnerships with libraries, community centers, and businesses to secure sustainable locations for tutoring and meetings.
- Create organizational capacity by building a literacy‑specific grant calendar, drafting foundational grant proposals, and designing sponsorship packages for local businesses.
- Identify opportunities to improve or adapt systems to support long‑term sustainability.
