Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with nearly 110,000 members and chapters across the country. We believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party. Through community and campus-based chapters, DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.

DSA is seeking an experienced candidate for a Membership Coordinator position. This position will report to the Development Director and work closely with other staff to manage requests from members.
Responsibilities- Work with the Development Director on fundraising initiatives, including end‑of‑year fundraising drives, membership drives, fundraising emails, bequests, and major gift fundraising.
- Respond to and process member and donor requests and inquiries via Zendesk, mail, and phone, in a timely manner.
- Organize and send monthly membership card mailings via a third‑party vendor, and track and resend membership cards returned to the NYC office.
- Manage new memberships, renewals, quit, dues waivers, expulsions, and lapsed member data.
- Assist with maintaining membership database, data hygiene, and membership data reports.
- Manage donation receipts and bundle donation checks for deposit.
- Manage snail mail mailings to members including the DSA Calendar, donor solicitations, donor gifts, etc.
- Work with the Finance team as needed for membership refunds, check deposit, state refunds, bequest checks, etc.
- Provide support for national events as needed.
- Provide administrative support to the Development Director as needed.
- Preferred: 2 years experience in fundraising, development, or a related field.

Experience handling a ticketing system like Zendesk. - Preferred:
Experience with CRM or similar systems. - Strong organizing and project management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and on tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with member leaders from varying political viewpoints under DSA’s big tent.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment with a non‑traditional leadership structure, adapting to changing political conditions and organizational needs.
- High level of accountability, responsibility, and dependability.
- Ability to travel on occasion.
- Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti‑racist, anti‑ableist, anti‑heterosexist and pro‑worker action, and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of DSA.
- Experience working in a membership‑led organization and/or with member leaders that direct the work (preferred).

Union position. We offer employer‑paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children, and three weeks of vacation in the first year of employment, then four weeks each year thereafter. Employer contribution equivalent to 1% of wage to a 401(k).
