About

the Role

As The Jewish Education Project deepens its impact in New York and across North America, the Director of Institutional Giving will serve as the operational and relational engine of a growing foundations program. This is a senior development role for a professional ready to build, manage, and sustain a sophisticated institutional giving portfolio, as well as deepen their leadership over time.

Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer and working in close partnership with the CEO and C-Suite, the Director will hold direct responsibility for a portfolio of funders, lead proposal and stewardship work, and coordinate with organizational leaders on funder relationships stewarded at the executive level.

Key Responsibilities Portfolio and Relationship Management
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of national, regional, and local foundations and federations to secure renewed and new institutional funding in support of the agency’s strategic priorities
  • Lead a portfolio of direct funder relationships and support executive leadership in stewarding key institutional partnerships
  • Serve as a key point of contact for foundation program officers, coordinating site visits, funder convenings, and touchpoints throughout the year
  • Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer to reach annual institutional fundraising goals and engage board members in institutional giving opportunities
Proposals, Reporting, and Stewardship
  • Lead the development of compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, white papers, and reports across the full portfolio
  • Coordinate the reporting process for all non-individual funders, including federation grants, large institutional foundations, and family foundations
  • Bi-annually draft or update ready-to-deploy one-pagers on the agency’s key areas of work for use in funder communications
  • Serve as a strategic partner to program leaders, helping translate organizational priorities into fundable opportunities
  • Collaborate with program, marketing, data, and finance colleagues to gather impact data, build budgets, and ensure all materials reflect the agency’s current priorities
Systems, Infrastructure, and Team
  • Develop and maintain a robust institutional giving pipeline through prospect research, opportunity identification, and customized cultivation strategies
  • Own the master calendar of submission deadlines, grant deliverables, and reporting milestones, ensuring all commitments are met with excellence
  • Establish and reinforce standards of excellence in IG processes, deliverables, and measurement systems
  • Supervise the Institutional Giving Manager, providing mentorship and day-to-day guidance
  • Work collaboratively with the broader Advancement team, which is focused on major individual gifts, to ensure coordinated funder strategies and a unified case for support
  • Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer on strategy development for both short- and long-term institutional giving goals
Experience, Qualifications, and Competencies
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in institutional giving, foundation relations, or development in a nonprofit environment
  • Demonstrated track record of securing five- and six-figure grants from private, family, and/or federated foundations
  • Experience both holding direct funder relationships and supporting C-suite principals in their funder relationships
  • Exceptional writer and editor; able to translate complex programmatic work into compelling, funder-facing narratives
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of managing multiple deadlines and priorities with precision
