Senior Global Advocacy Officer

Fs International Planned Parenthood Federation Western Hemisphere Region, Inc. (IPPFWHR) d/b/a Fs Feminista is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that was formed in New York State in 1955. Fs Feminista partners with 200 organizations in 35 countries to advance the sexual and reproductive rights and needs of women, girls, and other marginalized people worldwide. Fs Feminista's role is to facilitate transnational and transregional collaboration, advocacy, research, policy work and learning among partners;

amplify partners' work and voices; accompany partners' institutional strengthening; and catalyze and channel funding to support partners' work.

The Senior Global Advocacy Officer (SGAO) plays a strategic leadership role within Fs Feminista's Global Advocacy for Change team, with primary responsibility for advancing the organization's feminist, decolonial, and intersectional advocacy agenda in global and multilateral spaces, particularly within the United Nations system. Anchored in Fs Feminista's strategic plan, the SGAO ensures that the priorities, analyses, and demands of feminist movements, especially those from the Global South, shape global policy making on sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice (SRHRJ), gender equality, health equity, and economic justice.

Reporting to Chief Global Advocacy Officer, the role combines high‑level representation, political analysis, coalition engagement, and internal coordination, and is responsible for supervising advocacy staff and consultants supporting multilateral engagement.

Representation, Relationship Building, and Influence

  • Provide strategic leadership in defining and implementing Fs Feminista's UN and multilateral advocacy strategy, ensuring coherence with organizational priorities and political analysis.
  • Represent Fs Feminista in key UN processes and intergovernmental forums, including CSW, CPD, HLPF, UNGA, and relevant Human Rights Council mechanisms, amplifying movement‑led priorities on SRHRJ and gender justice.
  • Lead the design, coordination, and delivery of UN side events, briefings, and high‑level engagements, elevating the visibility and leadership of Fs Feminista Alliance members and partners.
  • Build, sustain, and strategically expand relationships with Member States, with priorities on countries in the global south, engaging both technical and political focal points (PRs, DPRs, and mission staff) to advance feminist policy outcomes.
  • Support institutional engagement with UN agencies (e.g., UNFPA, UN Women, UNICEF, WHO) and other multilateral bodies, in coordination with the Chief Global Advocacy Officer.
  • Ensure strategic and compliant use of Fs Feminista's UN ECOSOC accreditation.
  • Keep abreast of U.S. domestic and foreign policy trends, and positions relevant to global SRHRJ, gender equality, and health.
  • Engage selectively with U.S. policy actors and civil society partners to interpret and contextualize U.S. policy developments for global and multilateral advocacy.
  • Ensure that analysis of U.S. policies informs Fs Feminista's strategic support and education of Alliance members and partners, particularly in the Global South.

Coalition Building and Movement Strengthening

  • Represent Fs Feminista in key feminist and civil society coordination mechanisms, including the Women's Rights Caucus, ISRRC, Women's Major Group, and other relevant multilateral advocacy platforms.
  • Strengthen alliances with feminist organizations and networks engaged in UN advocacy in New York and Geneva, promoting intersectional, movement‑led strategies.
  • Participate in selected U.S.

-based foreign policy coalitions and coordination spaces, contributing global feminist and Global South‑centered perspectives.
  • Identify and cultivate strategic relationships with emerging and established feminist actors across regions to strengthen collective influence in global policy spaces.
  • Support coordinated advocacy approaches that reflect diverse political contexts and lived realities, centering Global South leadership.
